With grades one to four passes, the overall percentage is 87 percent this year.Mrs. Bhajan explained that the upward spiral in terms of results can be attributed to the amount of intervention at all levels. There are now more training programmes for teachers, increased access to curriculum resources, additional text books and other aids are also available. The schools at all levels are constantly monitored for effective delivery of education. There has also been more support for parental involvement in the education of their children.Presidential Advisor, Gail Teixeira, said that the Government of Guyana can continuously invest in this particular sector but the rate of success would be greater if parents play a more pivot role in the learning process of their children.Sending a child to school is just one aspect but children need supervision at home to ensure revision outside of the school. Guyana is on brink of change though it may not appear so at a glance. However, a country cannot move forward unless its people are adequately equipped with the necessary education and skills.Ms Teixeira called on the students not to narrow their career choices down to the traditional paths but bear in mind the expanding and emerging sectors in the country such as construction and tourism.Another key sector is agriculture. Climate change and global warming are threat to food security.Chairman of Region Six Zulfikar Mustapha said that in 2011 changes will be seen in the education sector. In the National Budget, this year $21.4 billion was budgeted for the education sector but Government is not seeing the level of performance to match the hefty allocation.
